2010 JAPAN APEC ENERGY MINISTERS' MEETING

 
WAS HELD IN FUKUI PREFECTURE ON JUNE 19TH (SAT) AND 20TH (SUN) !!


APEC Engy

On June 19 (Sat.) and 20 (Sun.), APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Energy Ministers’ Meeting, the world-biggest economic cooperation forum in which twenty-one Member Economies (countries and regions) in the Asian-Pacific region participated, was held in Fukui City. 
On June 18 (Fri.), the day before the meeting, “Welcome Reception” was organized by APEC Japan 2010 Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Fukui Promotion Association and the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In the reception, representatives of junior high school students in Fukui Prefecture presented APEC Junior Forum Proposals ”Message from the Children of Fukui to the Future” in English and handed the writing of the Proposals  to Mr. Naoshima, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
On 19 (Sat.), the 9th APEC Energy Ministers’ Meeting was held. Mr. Naoshima, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, was in the chair at the meeting. The outlook for the structure between energy supply and demand to achieve all 3 goals at once : energy security, emissions reduction and economic growth  was discussed and FUKUI DECLARATION ON LOW CARBON PATHS TO ENERGY SECURITY was adopted.
On 20 (Sun.), many delegations took part in “site tours” where they inspected some places in Fukui Prefecture. Mr. Naoshima, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, also took part in Reinan course tour. Including 6 chief representatives, 27 people from 9 Member Economies took part in Reinan course tour and they inspected “Monju”, a Fast Breeder Reactor, and took “test ride of next generation cars”, the newest model ecocars produced by domestic automobile manufacturers. Including 2 chief representatives, 15 people from 6 Member Economies took part in Reihoku course tour. They inspected Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins, Eiheiji Temple, the headquarters of a Buddhist sect, and Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum.
In cooperation with many people living in Fukui, companies and groups, we could welcome the people concerned ,who were living in Japan or from abroad , and give support to the meeting in various ways. Therefore, the first major-scale international meeting in Fukui was successfully closed. 


We deeply thank many people living in Fukui and members of the companies and the groups concerned for their support to us and help with traffic regulations.

FUKUI DECLARATION ON LOW CARBON PATHS TO ENERGY SECURITY

In APEC 2010 Energy Ministers’ Meeting, “FUKUI DECLARATION”, which shows that Member Economies are encouraged to set individual goals and action plans for introducing “low-emission power sources” such as nuclear power and renewable energy, was adopted.

What is APEC(Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation)?

The world-biggest economic cooperation forum

APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) is the world-biggest economic cooperation forum with the participation of  21 Pacific Rim countries and regions in Asia, North America, Latin America, and Oceania, in which the member economies exchange opinions in order to determine the future directions and objectives with regard to trade, economy, and the other fields.

Energy Ministers' Meeting is one of the most important meetings of APEC

Prior to the leaders’ meeting, according to categories such as trade, energy, finance, and tourism, ministerial meetings are held in APEC.  Among them, energy ministrerial meeting will be held in Fukui Prefecture, since the long-term domestic energy policy mostly in the Reinan region and the contribution to global warming prevention have been evaluated.  Energy Ministers' Meeting is a very important meeting, in which global warming policy in the future and energy conservation measures are discussed.

2010 Japan APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting Related Projects

  Prior to 2010 Japan APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting, in order to promote understanding of people in Fukui and to ferment the welcoming mood, APEC-related projects will be held throughout of the year.
  We have invited top-line influential individuals at home and abroad, such as Yachi Syotaro, a former Government Delegate, Tanaka Nobuo (the Director-General of IAEA), Amano Yukiya (Director-General of IAEA-Elect), both of whom are the two highest rating Japanese of international organizations, and Shiraishi Takashi, Head of JETRO Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization; and have been given lectures on energy policy, foreign policy and trade policy from the people above.
  in addition, we have invited Ambassador Juan Carlos Capuñay, the 16th Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat for the 2008 APEC Year hosted by Peru, and have held an international seminar.
  We will also invite ambassadors of APEC countries and regions and will develop an international education project aimed at high school students.

2010 Japan APEC Energy Ministerial Promotion System

kyogikai“2010 Japan APEC Energy Ministers' Meeting in Fukui Promotion Association” 
(established on October 9th, 2009). 

 With an aim for the sucess of Energy Ministers' Meeting, local organizations such as Fukui Prefecture, related cities, economic and tourism groups, and environment and energy groups will make an arrangement for preparation cooperatively.
  From now on, the association will conduct activities such as holdings of welcome receptions hosted by local authorities and support for meeting management by the national government.  In addition, it wll hold events aimed at enliving a welcoming mood with people in Fukui throughout the prefecture.  Governor Nishikawa has become President of the association and Hihashimura Shinichi, Mayor of Fukui City and Kawada Tatsuo, President of Fukui Prefecture Economic Organization Association, have become the Vice Presidents.  As the special advisers for the meeting preparation, Yauchi Shotaro, a former vice minister of the Foreign Ministry, and Kitabata Takao, a former vice mnister of the Ministery of Economy, Trade and Industry have been elected.
