The Outline of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation)

  APEC is the world-biggest economic cooperation forum for 21 Pacific Rim countries and regions in Asia, North America, Latin America, and Oceania, and member economies account for approximately 50% of the world’s GDP and approximately 40% of the world’s population.
  In APEC, the representatives of all member economies exchange opinions in order to determine the future directions and behavior objectives of liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, economic assistance, technical collaboration and the like.
Prior to the leaders’ meeting, according to categories such as trade, energy, finance, and tourism, ministerial meetings are held.

1. Establishment

November 1989: the first Ministerial Conference (Canberra, Australia)

2. Member Economies (21 countries and regions in total)

7 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam), Japan, Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada, Peru, Chile, Russia

3. Other Data of APEC Region

Scale of economy: approximately 50% of the world GDP
Population: approximately 40% of the world population
Japan’s export and import: Approximately 70% of Japan foreign trade (export and import) take place in APEC region.
