About the Holding of an “Inbound Seminar”
We would like to announce that, as the preparation for APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting which is to be held in Fukui Prefecture in next June, considering the necessity of arranging accommodation for VIPs and their attendants of APEC member economies, and of promoting activities with regard to accommodation for non-Eastern Asian visitors to Japan who are supposed to be on the rise in the future, for tourist industry business people in the prefecture, municipal government officials, and stuff members of tourist organizations, Hokuriku International Tourism Theme Region Fukui Prefecture Regional Promotion Association will hold a seminar mentioned below as follows.

President of Hotel Fugetsu HAMMOND
He established “Foreign Tourist Welcoming Committee in Beppu City”, a private-sector-driven organization, and has acted as chairman for 10 years in order to promote more acceptable environment arrangement for inbound. For example, he has achieved foreign exchange facilities in accommodations, continuous statistical system on nationality-based foreign overnight guests in collaboration with academics, fostering of volunteer guides (English, Korean, Chinese, and Thai) based on foreign exchange students, and other projects. These activities result in the surge of the number of foreign overnight guests in the city, from about 210 thousand (2006) to about 225 (Jan. to Nov., 2007), which accounts for about twice the number of the population (about 123 thousand).
He assumed a YOKOSO! JAPAN ambassador, in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, on January 18th, 2008.
