About the Result of Selection of the 3rd “Selection of 100 Mothers of Guest house in Villages located in Farms, Mountains, and Fishing Areas”
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport have conducted “Selection of 100 Mothers of Guest house in Villages in Farms, Mountains, and Fishing Areas” since 2007, which selects about 100 women practitioners in Japan who are in charge of maintaining the quality of a guest house in villages located in farms, mountains, and fishing areas, and qualified as an opinion leader in local communities, with an aim to promote the spread and settlement of these guesthouses, which are expected to play an important role in coexistence and exchange between urban areas and rural ones, which will realize the national need for affluence and comfort.
So far, 20 mothers in the 1st year (2007) and 28 in the 2nd (2008) were selected.
We would like to announce that, in this year, the last one, 52 mothers from 34 prefectures were selected, including 3 more mothers from Fukui Prefecture, following 1 in last year.
1. The outlines of selected mothers’ activities
(1) Sasamura Kimie from Kura no Ihe sanchi (Ohira cho, Echizen City)
She runs a farmer-style guest house in an old folk house designated as “Traditional Folk Houses in Fukui” and plays a starring role in “LOHAS Echizen”, a green tourism promotion group, contributing to creating a network among farm-style guest houses in the city.
(2) Kato Michiko from Kato sanchi (Akatani cho, Echizen City)
She runs a farmer-style guest house offering healthy diet in an old folk house designated as “Traditional Folk Houses in Fukui” and acts as chief of the food experience division in “LOHAS Echizen”, conducting promotion activities of local food culture.
(3) Nakai Kimie from Ryoushi no Yado Nakai (Irohama, Tsuruga City)
She runs a fisherman-style guest house and conducts promotion activities of fishing experience and food culture, as well as instructs younger mothers in other guest houses.
