Education in Fukui
・ In order to help children achieve their dreams, Fukui Prefecture promotes “18 years of education” continuing from birth until high school graduation.
・ Individual homes, communities, and schools have their own traditional cultures and provide stable environments. They work together to support children and make strong networks which promote high-level education.
・ National studies show that Fukui Prefecture has continued to show very good results in children’s scholastic ability and physical strength.

Lesson Study
・ Some teachers attend lessons at the University of Fukui, Department of Professional Development of Teachers to develop problem resolution skills for the classroom.
・ Lesson study sessions continue for two years at designated schools with other teachers and university teaching professionals.
・ Elementary, junior high, and high school teachers observe lessons together. They participate in discussions on the lessons to improve teaching skills and class management.
Fukui is the Center of Education in Japan
・ In one year, more than 2,000 teachers from all over Japan and overseas visit Fukui to observe classes and learn about education in the prefecture.
・ In June 2015, members of WALS (World Association of Lesson Studies) visited Fukui for a Lesson Study Immersion Program lasting three days. They observed classes and joined in lesson discussions with teachers.
・ 12 teachers from seven prefectures are working as teachers in Fukui through a one-year program while st udying education in the prefecture.
Features of Education in Fukui
・ Fukui prefecture strives to foster children’s interest in international affairs as well as to raise the general level of English conversation ability. Assistant Language Teachers are utilized throughout the school year.
・ Four high schools in Fukui Prefecture. are accredited as Super Science High Schools. (Considering Fukui’s small population, this number is very high in comparison to other prefectures.)
・ Fukui Prefecture promotes cooperation with universities in Japan.
Fukui Prefectural University (link: http://www.fpu.ac.jp/en/) is engaged in research and education relating especially to countries situated along the Japan Sea coast.
