Announcement for those traveling to Mexico or the U.S.A. regarding the prevention of infectious disease.

Currently in Mexico the amount of people experiencing relatively severe respiratory problems which indicate influenza is spreading. Those going abroad, please consider the necessity of your trip.

Furthermore, there have been reports that the swine influenza virus (H1N1 strain) has reached even California and Texas in the U.S., so please be aware of all news on the situation as it develops.

<When traveling abroad>

  • Wear a mask to prevent the spread of infection through coughing or sneezing.
  • Make sure to actively wash your hands and gargle.
  • If you experience any symptoms of influenza such as fever or coughing, please consult a local doctor or medical practitioner.

<When returning home>

  • To those who are experiencing any symptoms of influenza such as fever or coughing, please consult the quarantine center (Kenekisho).

Special characteristics of the spreading virus

  • According to information from the WHO, in the period between March 18th and April 23rd there were over 854 patients with influenza symptoms, including 59 deaths.
  • Symptoms include fever, fatigue, cough, nasal congestion/mucus, sore throat, and other such respiratory problems.
